Image and file naming
I hope this doesnt sound too rudementary and if ti does or you already know how to name files, skip down. If not its quite simple – you name files, each file, be it image, pdf or otherwise with these 3 pieces of information. Who-what-when.
So for example the 2019 Handbook for ILS Gaylord should be named ils-gaylord-handbook-2019.pdf.
File organizing with download manager.
All files need a one sentence description and if possible one or two word keywords associated with it.
See demo download page here for examples. http://www.ilsgaylord.org/download-test/
Image sizing w/o Photoshop *
Try this first to make your images smaller than 2mb https://tinyjpg.com/
1. Start by formatting an image for web use using photoshop or another image editor, The image should have its width be 1000 pixels, 72 dpi and saved with an image quality of 75%.
If you are not familiar with photoshop there is an online image editor you can use at http://jpeg-optimizer.com.
2. Open up http://jpeg-optimizer.com and choose the file from your hard drive you want to optimize. Use the settings above…
3. When you click “Optimize Photo” it will show you your optimized image – click on the image and save it to the location of your choice – a suggestion would be a common folder on the desktop.
Optimizing Image size in kilobytes (kb) *
Physical image size increases as the dimensions increase – the larger the image the longer it takes to download – for example the average size (kb) of a 1800 pixel wide image saved from photoshop is about 350kb – it can be compresses smaller using Tinypng.com. Tinypng.com and tinyjpg.com are the same service under different domains and are free and work on all image types… A recompressed image through tinypng.com goes from 350k to 200k.
please use https://www.tinypng.com whenever possible before uploading…
* “IMSANITY” is installed on this site and will format all uploaded images to a max size of 200o pixel wide or tall and compress and resave them to 70% jpg… Originals will be discarded so make sure you have your originals backed up.
